  • Principal Investigator

Maximilian Konig is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

He grew up in Berlin, Germany, where he attended medical school at Charité, one of the birthplaces of cellular pathology and immunology. He subsequently moved to Boston and Baltimore where he completed clinical training in internal medicine and rheumatology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital, respectively.

His lab focuses on developing precision immunotherapies for autoimmune diseases and cancer. When not at the bench, he enjoys travel, photography, and teaching the next generation of scientists about rheumatic diseases and all things autoimmunity.

  • Physician, PhD Student, Pathobiology

Dr. Jin Liu grew up in the picturesque Gansu Province of China. In 2019, she earned her medical degree from Wuhan University School of Medicine. Following her graduation, she pursued postdoctoral training with Dr. Irina Burd at Johns Hopkins studying placental T-cell heterogeneity in intrauterine infection and inflammation. This experience shaped her appreciation of immuno-homeostasis in the fetal brain and mother during pregnancy.

Eager to expand her knowledge of immunopathology, Dr. Liu joined the Pathobiology PhD program at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to obtain additional training as a physician-scientist. She is now delving into the world of autoimmune diseases in the König lab, eager to uncover underlying mechanisms and next-generation therapies that may make autoimmune disease history.

Outside of the lab, she enjoys traveling and exploring new places, whipping up delicious dishes to share with friends, and playing with her adorable cat. Beyond science and immunology, if you ever want to exchange Chinese food recipes, share travel stories, or chat about furry friends, she is the right person to ask!
